SAMANID MAUSOLEUM

The SamanidMausoleum is one of the architectural heritage not only of Samarkand, but also of Central Asia. It was built by Ismail Samani, the founder of the Samanid state, in honor of his father Ahmad ibn Assad. Later, the mausoleum became the family tomb of the Samanids: Ismail himself was buried in it, and then the grandson of Ismail was buried here too, according to the inscriptions above the entrance.

It is known that the Samanid Mausoleum is the oldest monument of Islamic architecture in Central Asia, as well as the only surviving architectural monument of the reign of the Samanids Dynasty.
