The famous madrasah, located on Chorsu Square in Kokand, was the largest Muslim higher educational institution of the 20th century. During the USSR period, madrasahceased to function, but with the declaration of independence by the Republic of Uzbekistan, it re-opened and continued to teach Islam. Today, more than 80 students study there.
